The new CD from Kevin Hupp and Rick Tedesco
As the drummer for artists Iggy Pop, Maceo Parker, Rick Derringer, Edgar Winter, Ian Hunter ( with Mick Ronson )Rufus Wainwright , Eddie Van Halen , Joan Osborne and many more, we’ve grooved to his unmistakable style and deep pocket on countless records. Teaming up with guitarist Rick Tedesco ( Alice Cooper, Ian Hunter ) we’ll get to hear him step out and rock hard on this long awaited, much anticipated CD, Psycho Merchants.
“This is the record I had to make”, states Hupp. “As a producer, I wanted to make a record that mirrored what I love. Rock, Period. Teaming up with Tedesco was the collaboration I’ve been waiting for! We work together so easily, the songs just kept coming”. Psycho Merchants is a combination of Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin and a little Ozzie thrown in for good taste. With a deep bow to my favorite band, Kings X”.
Kevin also takes on the lead vocals, with Rick doing all the backup harmonies. “That’s another place that Rick and I work so well together. He’s got a great high voice that blends perfect with mine.”
Hupp is a veteran NYC session player. “He’s one of the most musical drummers I’ve ever heard” says veteran producer Dan Wise, “ He’s got all the chops you could want, but only uses them in the perfect moment.”
For the past 10 years, Hupp has been playing, recording and producing records for artists in all genres, but his passion is rock and together with Tedesco and bass player Frank Gagliardi, rock they do! Psycho Merchants is their debut cd. The songs are in your face anthems and catchy as hell.
“I had to have a badass bass player, and that’s ‘FrankOnBass’ Gagliardi, one of the best bassist/ musicians I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. It is very important that each player’s musical voice & style be heard, contributing to the sound as a whole.”
As Rick puts it, “Finding Kevin was like finding a needle in a haystack for me. We are the perfect fit for each other musically. Writing this record with him was so easy that we had to force ourselves to stop writing and start recording. It really was effortless. We would sit down and write 2 or 3 songs in an hour … and they were f&%#* badass! We already have songs for the next record!”
Favorite songs off the cd ? “Well, of course, I like them all, but if I had to choose a few that represent the whole recording it would be Stop Pushin, Rubiks Cube, and Even More.
“LET’S KEEP ROCK ALIVE”, says Hupp, “there’s not enough out there so, TURN IT UP!”
